But there is one that wears the crown from that neck of the woo.

The year is still young but the online poker nosebleed limits are already buzzing.

The first 'man of the year' so far? Mysterious Russian poker genius “Trueteller.'

On the losing side over the last week of 2014/first days of 2015: Alexandre Luneau and “Eire Abu.'

Luneau Punished by Gus Hansen in FL08

Trueteller Poker Strategy

If you’ve watched the recent documentary Nosebleed you know that Gus Hansen is Alexandre Luneau’s favorite opponent at the high-stakes tables.

However, he should probably not face him in a game Hansen is one of the experts in – like Kyle cottonseed1 Hendon, Kyle PKR16 Ray and SallyWoo.

That game is Omaha Fixed Limit Hi-Lo, also known as FL08.

Maybe the Frenchman hoped to improve his disastrous results in 2014 but he played one long session against “The Great Dane” and made things a lot worse.

The two opponents played 730 hands over six and a half hours and afterwards Luneau was missing half a million dollars in his bankroll.

What happened then is what always happens when Gus Hansen gets hold of some money: He plays – a lot.

Gus Gives It Back, Good Start for Trueteller

The action quickly intensified on PLO, 2-7 Triple Draw and the FL08 tables and when the dust cleared again SanIker, Trueteller and carloo13 had made a couple of hundred thousand dollars.

Meanwhile, Gus Hansen was back empty-handed again. And the mysterious Trueteller lived up to his reputation.

In the summer of 2014 the Russian went on an amazing run that brought him $2m and temporarily made him the leader of the yearly leaderboard.

But then he met up with “end boss” Dan Cates, and their meeting had grim consequences for him as he faced some severe downswings after that.

Yet, in the Russian poker community, several professional players confirmed independently that Trueteller was a poker genius and would probably be one of the next dominating players in high-stakes online poker.

The first days of 2015 gave us a little taste of what is supposed to come. SanIker also found a good start into the year -- or should we say his hot run carries on.

Biggest Online Poker Pot of the Week

January 2 saw the biggest pot to date this year and the circumstances were highly unusual. The game was Pot Limit Omaha, the limits $100/$200 – a little lower than usual – and it was at a full 6-max table.

The players were St1ckman and EireAbu in the blinds, ImagineKing, fjutekk, DonkPredator and AckmaJin. The action blew up pre-flop already. ImagineKing had min-raised UTG to $400, fjutekk folded, but DonkPredator 3-bet big to $1,740.

That was too much for AckmaJin but the players in the blinds went for it. St1ckman 4-bet to $6k and EireAbu moved his complete stack of $12k across the line.

ImageKing thought better of it but DonkPredator reshoved with $25k. St1ckman called, holding the biggest stack at the table.

Thus $63k was already in the middle before the community cards fell. The board ran

And these were the hands at showdown:

EireAbu:

DonkPredator:

St1ckman:

EireAbu plays against two pairs of aces and eventually wins the main pot hitting two pair.

Over the past couple of years, Partypoker has been bolstering its roster of sponsored players by recruiting some of Europe’s biggest tournament winners of all time, including France’s Bertrand Grospellier, Germany’s Fedor Holz, and the UK’s Sam Trickett. In its latest bold marketing move, the brands has now added Timofey “Trueteller” Kuznetsov to its Team partypoker roster, a Russian legend who specializes in online NLHE and PLO cash games.

Cash Game Legend

The 27-year-old pro has earned quite the reputation at the nosebleed stakes over the years. From 2011 to 2015, Kuznetsov amassed $2,052,524 in winning on Full Tilt, while he currently has $3,095,168 in winnings on PokerStars and continues to play regularly on the site. In addition to crushing the high stakes game for more than seven years, Kuznetsov has also been involved in some of the biggest pots ever played in online history.

Needless to say, Kuznetsov would have won countless millions on the live cash game circuit, too, and while attending a Triton Poker Super High Roller Series tournament told a reporter that he is a regular at the Macau Big Game, stating that “they play No-Limit Hold’em. It’s my favorite game.”

Interestingly, Kuznetsov played anonymously online up until 2015, and only revealed his true identity to the poker community during one of his sporadic ventures into the live tournament arena. During the $50,000 Poker Players’ Championship at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas that year, Kuznetsov finally revealed his online identity to his surprised peers, who finally got to learn who was the mysterious player who had been crushing the high stakes online action for so long.

Rare Tournament Ventures

As mentioned, Kuznetsov prefers to play cash games, and has only occasionally strayed onto the live tournament circuit. Nevertheless, he has still managed to amass $2,989,677 in tournament winnings, placing him at number 16 on Russia’s ‘All Time Money List’, just behind Anatoly Filatov ($3,060,755), who incidentally is the other Russian player to represent partypoker.

Interestingly, Filatov’s winnings have come via 68 live tournaments, while Kuznetsov has been earned fom just three cashes over the last three years. In 2015, he finished the $500,000 Super High Roller Bowl in 4th place for a massive $2,150,000 payday, followed in 2016 by a victory at the $50,000 Aria Super High Roller for $748,446, and in 2017 he also booked a 5th place finish at the HK$ 250,000 Six Max Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Philippines for HK$708,000 ($91,231).

Giving Back to Community

Having spent much of his poker career cloaked in anonymity, Kuznetsov said that he was now looking forward to breaking his social silence and giving back to the community during a time which he describes as a “dark age in poker.”

“I am looking forward to using my experience of online games to help shape the poker ecology at partypoker and get involved in the new software developments. I also have a keen interest in working with partypoker to develop better mixed games and I can’t wait to start working on this proposal.”

Meanwhile, Partypoker’s MD, Tom Waters has expressed his delight at having Timofey join the team, and according to the brand’s Head of Poker, Timofey’s vast experience will be instrumental in improving the site’s game offerings.

“We are thrilled that Timofey has decided to pledge his allegiance to partypoker and can’t wait to start working with him,” explained Waters.

POWERFEST $60M Gtd

Kuznetsov’s recruitment to partypoker coincides with the brand’s POWERFEST flagship series that got underway at the beginning of September and is due to conclude on the 23rd. A staggering $60 million prize pool has been guaranteed for the 670 event long series, which features a wide choice of buy-ins ranging from $1.10 all the way up to $25,500. “Trueteller” joins just in time to play some of its final events as a partypoker representative, and will be keen to grab some of the $20 million in guarantees still available on the site’s biggest stage
